Walnuts health benefits

Health benefits of walnuts

According to U.S researcher, Joe Vinson of the University of Scranton, "Walnutsrank above peanuts, almonds, pecans, pistachios and other nuts. A handful of walnuts contains almost twice as much antioxidants as an equivalent amount of any other commonly consumed nut" (as quoted on sciencedaily.com)
But unfortunately, people don't eat a lot of them. "Antioxidants in walnuts were two to 15 times as potent as vitamin E- renowned for its powerful antioxidant effects, which protect the body against damaging natural chemicals involved in causing disease," Vinson says. In fact in a 2009 U. S. study, nut consumption was associated with a significantly lower risk of weight gain and obesity. But you need to keep the portion small (maximum 7 walnuts a day).
Care for the heart
Being a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids they keep the bad cholesterol level in check and also raise the level of good cholesterol in the body. A handful of these can keep you away from cardiovascular diseases, stroke , coronary artery diseases and other potential dangers related to the heart .
Beats inflammatory diseases
They have the power to tackle inflammatory diseases like asthma , psoriasis, eczema and rheumatoid arthritis.
Raises immunity
Walnuts boast antioxidant properties that enhance the immune system and protect against ageing, cancer and neurological disorders.
Make your skin glow
"Walnuts offer up healthy Omega-3 fats that strengthen the membranes of your skin cells, locking in moisture and nutrients that keep it plump and glowing and keeping out toxins that can damage skin cells," say Stephanie Clarke and Willow Jarosh, Registered Dieticians and co-owners of C&J Nutritionin Manhattan .
Walnuts also boast strong astringent properties that protect the skin from dryness. In fact, for the same reason, they are also used since ages in massagetherapy, aromatherapy and cosmetic products.
Pregnancy
These healthy nuts contain high levels of B-complex group of vitamins like folates, riboflavin, thiamin and others which are ideal for consumption by pregnant women.
Walnuts and minerals
Walnuts contain manganese, potassium, zinc, calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium and copper that serve various purposes including spermdevelopment and acid synthesis.
Fight constipation
Walnuts can also be consumed as laxatives as they can help against constipation.
For beautiful hair
Walnuts are a key 'hair food', as they are an excellent source of biotin, an essential nutrient known to strengthen hair, improve hair growth and reduce hair fall. A deficiency of biotin leads to frequent hair loss and breakage.
Weight loss
'Walnuts serve as a delicious-tasting, low cholesterol weight loss food. To fully enjoy the benefits of walnuts for weight loss, it is important to remember that these nuts are a high-calorie food that should be eaten in moderation. Make sure to add only 1.5 ounces (about 20 walnut halves) for maximum benefit to your daily menu.

Natural Treatment For Headache

Natural Treatment For Headache ~

>Rest in a quiet room, in darkness or with dimmed lights. Make sure of getting enough sleep at night.
>Massage the muscles at the back of neck and shoulder in a gentle circular motion with sesame oil. Then take a hot shower.
>Try using heat to soothe the pain: fill a hot-water bottle, wrap it in a towel, and rest your head on it.
>Try aerobic exercise, yoga, or deep breathing or relaxation exercises.
>If working at a desk or computer workstation, get up and walk around regularly to reduce tension in your neck and shoulders.
>Have your eyesight checked.
>Build up physical resistance through proper nutrition, exercise and positive thinking to prevent headache.

>Avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine in excess, and smoking.
>Avoid red meat, nuts, and chocolate.
>Avoid Spices, condiments, sour buttermilk, and oily foodstuffs.
>Boiling fresh ginger or dried ginger powder in water and then inhaling the steam is also effective.
>Eat a ripe apple with a little salt every morning on an empty stomach. Take this continuously for about a week.

How did life on earth appear????

Panspermia

How did life on earth appear? Science suggests that life started when the planet was favourable for habitation. Yet did microscopic organisms just pop out of nowhere? One hypothesis is panspermia, which suggests that ‘seeds of life’ exist everywhere around the universe, and that life on earth started when these ‘seeds’ came here, probably by a meteor. It also suggests that these seeds are taken to other habitable places in the universe. Something similar to this is exo-genesis. It suggests that life was brought to earth those billions of years ago, however it does not say that life is also taken to other habitable places. Some people believe aliens brought life to our planet, as suggested by the theories of Erich Von Daniken. Although some are sceptical as to how life could exist in space and get carried to other planets, there is substantial evidence that certain life forms, like spores and certain types of bacteria can actually exist in space, perhaps in a dormant state.

To determine the initial and final setting time and consistency of cement

To determine the initial and final setting time and consistency of cement
Apparatus
Vicatt’s apparatus
300 gm sample of cement
Trowel
Conical hard rubber ring
Water
Graduated cylinder
Procedure
*take the triple beam balance and set the reading of scale to zero
*take a plan and measure its weight
*measure 300gm sample of cement
Take the cylinder and measure 80ml of water now start making the paste doesn’t exceed 1 minute. Alsonote the time of making paste. Now put the paste in the rubber ring from the wider side i.e from down side and make both the upper and lower surface smooth by charging it on a smooth surface now the two tests will be conducted separately by different procedure as
STEPS FOR NORMAL CONSISTANCY TEST
*take the vicatt’s apparatus and place the rubber mould beneath the rod
*set the 10mm diameter plunger on the lower side of rod. Place the lower end of plunger just above the surface of paste
*now release the rod and note down the penetration of plunger in the paste.
*for cement to be normal consistence the penetration should be 10mm according to ASTEM standard on room temperature.
*if it’s not so then the water and cement ratio will not be standard.
Steps for initial setting time tests
*for determining the initial setting time of cement paste set the 1mm diameter needle on the lower end of the rod.
*now release the rod for 30seconds and note the time at which the needle was released, record this in the table along with the penetration of needle in the paste.
*after periodic time again release the rod for 30 seconds note the penetration of the needle in paste
Repeat the above step until the penetration becomes just 25mm which is ASTM standard. Calculate the total time up to this step, which will be initial setting time for the cement. Compare it with the standard time and give comments.

Observation for Consistency Test
Weight of cement =
Amount of water added =
Percentage of water added =
Room temperature =
Water temperature =
PENETRATION =
Result:
“The cement paste is much consistent because the penetration is less 10 mm”
Observation for initial setting time test
ASTM STANDARDS
Initial setting time =
Penetration =
S.No      Time     Penetration

Result:
“Cement is not according to standard”

Steps for final setting time tests
For determining the final setting time of cement pastes set the 5mm diameter needle on the lower end of the rod.
Now again repeat the above steps for noting the final setting time of cement.
The final setting time will be noted when the needle if release does not sink visibility and note leaves no impression on the surface of the paste.
Then compare it with the ASTM standard time. The final setting time can be found by the formula.
Final time = 90+1.2(initial setting time)
ASTM STANDARD TEMPERATURE
Room temperature = 20 c to 27.5 c
Water temperature = 21.6 c to 24.7 c

Observation for final setting time test
ASTM standard
Final setting time =
Penetration =
Final setting time=
So final setting time is
Result:
“The cement is not accurate to the standard”

TO TEST THE FINENESS OF CEMENT BY SIEVE ANALYSIS METHOD (DRY METHOD)

TO TEST THE FINENESS OF CEMENT BY SIEVE ANALYSIS METHOD (DRY METHOD)
APPARATUS
Sieve number # 200
Portland cement
Bowl or plate or tray
Weight measuring machine or balance
PROCEDURE
Take a 100g of ordinary Portland cement (w1).sieve number # 200 is used  for dry method .cement is shaking for 15 min and collect powder  from shaking in bowl or plate .small particle passing through the  holes of sieve and large particles left behind on sieve.(w2)weighted .residue weight then we check the fineness =( W1-W2/W1)100
                              W1
If > 90% then cement is fresh.
If < 90% then cement is not fresh.

Observation and Calculation
W1 =
W2 =
Fineness =
Fineness =
Result:
Specimen Cement is not fresh. If cement is not fresh then we sent back the begs of cement toward the factory or store etc.
